Strength & Conditioning, Exercise Screening

The modern game has become more athletic, which has also led to a sharp increase in the use of modern sports science techniques not only in the selection process, but also in the continued development of players.

Today’s professional and academy cricketers undergo an array of physical competency and fitness testing as part of their selection criteria which they must pass to a sufficient level to be considered. Those who make the cut then continue to undergo regular testing which will form the basis of their on-going strength and conditioning programmes. Just having some talent with the bat or ball is no longer enough if you want to make it in the professional game.

A screening process will use a series of tests to thoroughly analyse the capabilities of individuals and highlight strengths, weaknesses and imbalances. A primary concern is injury prevention. Costly for both players and the team, the testing can give an insight into the likelihood of injuries being sustained and weather the player will be able to cope with the demands of the playing schedule and perform at a high level day in day out. Building from injury prevention the focus moves towards optimal performance, preparing players physically to achieve their full potential and be the best they can be.

Screening

Using an array of tests based on the physical demands and requirements of cricket we will asses you in areas including aerobic capacity, flexibility, body composition and movement competence. The outcome of the screening will be fed back you and its implications discussed. This data is then used to determine an appropriate exercise plan and intervention strategy including nutritional guidance. You will be provided with a copy of the interpretation of results and an exercise programme specific to your requirements.

These assessments are available for 13 years and older.

Physical screening

The screening and feedback process will take between two and three hours to complete and includes interpretation of results and an individualised exercise programme.

Cost: £155

Review

Review sessions are available to those who have completed the full screening process.

This is a process of assessing and monitoring progress based on the initial screening and subsequent exercise programme. The full battery of tests are not repeated, but specific tests may be used to help gauge progress and aid in making future recommendations in conjunction with assessing performance of the current exercise programme. An updated training programme will then be provided for your continued progression.

Cost: £70 per session

Regular reviews are recommended to ensure the exercise programme remains relevant and allows you to continue to progress and techniques are being properly performed.

Re-screen

The full battery of testing is undertaken once again, which may include different techniques to account for your development or to further assess areas of interest highlighted in the initial screening or reviews. Once again results are interpreted and discussed and an updated programme is devised for you.

Cost: £140

Rescreening is recommended two to four times a year (depending on the individual) to ensure the information that interventions are based on is up to date and accurate. The demands of playing or working can also negatively the body and regular screening helps to identify any potential problems creeping in to the body before performance is affected and injury incurred.
